Persepolos

      the movie persepolis is about a girl who grows up in iran durring wars and the revolution and moves to france as a teenager to get a good education. she struggles to fit i in france at first untill she finds people who accept her and like to hang out with her. over her time there she lives in many different places and finds many groups of people to hang out with, she tries to find different boyfriends but none of them ever worked out. it eventually gets to the point where she cant take living there anymore and she moves back home to iran with her family, when she ges back she has to get usd to her cultural restrictions again because she got used to being so free in france. at the end of the movie she moves to america and the camera shows her driving off in a taxi.

      the culture in iran is much much different from that of the united states, women are expected to cover every part of their body except their face. the men are looked at as higher than the women. the country looks poor and they dont have much for technology. they hace dirt roads instead of paved roads like in the U.S. the country is highly religious and most of the people there are muslim.

run lola run

this movie was about fate and what the effects time and decisions have on ur fate. in this movie the main character, lola, is trying to find a way to quickly obtain 100 thousand marks. the movie goes through different scenarios of how she can get the money. in one scenario she tries to get it from her father but he father abandons her and her mother to have a child with another woman so she meets up with her boyfriend and they rob a grocery store. in the end she ends up getting shot by the police. in another scenario she steals it from a bank where her father works and when she gets to her boyfriend he gets hit by a car and dies. in the third and final scenario she goes to a casino and bets money on roulett and wins the money and when she tries to find her boyfriend he had already got the money that he lost on the train from a homeless man that he had to chase down.

this movie took place in germany which seemed to look pretty similar to the united states. the culture seemed to b pretty average in what us americans would consider normal. although the vehicles looked a bit different for example the ambulance that is in the movie doesnt look anything like our ambulances. so aside from the language and the minor little differences germany is pretty similar to the US.

the host

The movie The Host was about a mutant fish that terrorizes the city and infects the people and eats people. The mutant takes the main character, Gang-du's daughter, Hyun-seo captive and keeps her in a sewer. since the family came in first contact with the mutant the government takes them for DNA testing. Gang-du thought his daughter was dead until he gets a call from his daughters cell phone. He tells his family about the call and they escape from the government testing facility in search of his daughter. they get split up and captured and the mutant killes gang-du's father along the way. the mutant captures another boy who ends up alive and becomes friends with hyun-seo. at the end of the movie the mutant eats them and brings them to the government place where they rekease a gas paralizing the mutant.then the family shows up and they all shoot at the mutant and kill it. the mutant pukes up the girl and the boy. the girl is dead but the boy lived.


the movie was set in south korea. it didnt look too much different from the united states. it seemed to be pretty modern.

Maria Full of Grace post movie blog

     the movie  maria full of grace is about a 17 year old girl named maria who works for a flower store with her friend blanca. she is treated like trash by her boss and quits because she is sick of the abuse from her boss. she finds out that she is pregnant and her boyfriend asked her to merry him, not because he wants to but because thats what he thinks would b best for the child. maria doesn't like the idea and they get into a fight about it and they break up. on her way to bogota to look for a job she meets up with a guy she met at a club and she offers her a job through one of his friends which is being a heroin mule. desperate, she takes the offer and swallows 62 wrapped pellets of heroin and takes a plane to new york along with her friend blanca who is also strapped for cash. when she arrives in new york she is stopped and pulled aside to b checked to see if she is smuggling drugs. since she is pregnant they are not allowed to x-ray her and she is let go. they meet the men who they r supposed to give the pellets to outside the airport and are taken to a motell room to pass the pellets. one of the pellets bursts inside lucy's stomach, another girl smuggling heroin from columbia, and dies. the men cut her open and retrieve the pellets. maria gets freaked out so she grabs blanca and the heroin and they leave to go live with lucy's sister carla for a few days. maria and blanca go to see a guy about what happened and he tells them to return the pellets before any damage is done to their families. they go and give the men the pellets and get their money. then just before boarding the plane maria decides that she wants to stay in the U.S. to have a better life for her baby but blanca returns to columbia.

     life in columbia is poorer and harder than life in the united states. in columbia people struggle to provide for themselves and their families. its hard to find a job that will pay you enough to survive. when offered to be a mule it is easy to say yes to when you are being payed $100 for each pellet that u smuggle into the U.S. especially when ur options are so limited.

pre blog: maria full of grace

     this movie is about a 17 year old girl who works in sweatshop-like conditions at a flower plantation. maria quits her job and on her way to bogota in search of a new job she is offered the opportunity to b a heroin drug mule and because she was desperate she accepts the offer and swallows 62 wrapped pellets of heroin and flies to new york city with her friend blanca.
     she gets by customs because of her pregnancy and tells them that the father of the child payed for the plane ticket. the drug traffickers round up maria and the other drug mules and take them to a motell until they pass all the pellets.
     one of her fellow mules, lucy, becomes ill because of a ruptured pellet inside of her. the traffickers then cut lucy open and retrieve the pellets and while the traffickers leave to go dump the body, maria and her friend blanca depart with the drugs they have passed and escape. they go to live with lucy's sister. at first they dont reveal to her that lucy is dead but she later finds out and kicks maria and blanca out.
     at the end of the movie maria and blanca turn in their drugs and get their money and use some of it to send lucy's body back to columbia. blanca returns to colombia but maria decides to stay in the united states.

Afghan Star

     this movie is about the afghanistan equivalent to the united states hit show american idol. there are many differences though between the two. since afghanistan is a muslim dominated country there are many restrictions that the stars are expected to follow. for one, none of the contestants are allowed to dance when they are on stage. to us americans this is a very strange restriction because in the united states dancing is such an innocent and average thing to do.
     in this movie one of the contestants believes in a more free world for muslims and decides to dance on stage durring her performance. this causes a lot of bad reputation for her and many of her fans are highly disappointed and some even wished her dead for what she did. the taliban, a muslim terrorist organisation, plans to assassinate her because of her actions on stage.

     afghan culture is much different than that of the united states. afghanistan is poor and america is rich. they dont believe in women's rights and we fight for it. we live very free lives here in america, so seeing all the restrictions and seeing how people live and see how the people think and act in afghanistan is very shocking and bizarr to us.

     The movie please vote for me is about a elementary school class in china that has an election for class monitor. There were 3 candidates. There were 2 boys and one girl. One boy had a more aggressive take on things, infact he was at one point in the movie accused of being that of a dictator. He is strict and was said to beat the other children. The other boy was a bit chubby and was a bit nicer than the other boy. The girl seemed to be inferior to the boys and didnt seem to have much confidence.
